Waterbury police recover stolen vehicle, arrest two juveniles

WATERBURY — Officers from the Waterbury Police Department’s specialized task forces recovered a stolen BMW and arrested two juveniles on Dec. 24 around 12:16 p.m. during a coordinated patrol operation.

Members of the Auto Theft Task Force (ATTF), Gang Task Force, and the Connecticut Violent Crime Task Force were conducting patrols along Burton Street when they spotted a 2024 BMW X7, previously reported stolen from Nassau County, NY, parked at 76 Burton Street.

Upon observing two individuals entering the vehicle, officers moved in for investigation.

The driver, a 17-year-old male from Waterbury, attempted to drive away but was immediately detained.

The passenger, a 14-year-old male also from Waterbury, fled on foot but was captured following a short chase.

Both youths were taken into custody and are facing charges.

The 17-year-old has been charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle (2nd Offense) and Interfering with an Officer.

The 14-year-old is charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle (1st Offense) and Interfering with an Officer.
