Springfield man, 74, arrested for eluding police

SPRINGFIELD — A 74-year-old man was arrested at his home in Springfield after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop earlier in the day, according to Springfield Police Department.

Police stated that on Nov. 15, at 3:59 p.m., Officer Callahan and Corporal Perkins attempted to stop Bruce Batchelder Sr. for a vehicle violation.

Batchelder reportedly did not comply and led authorities on a brief pursuit to Weatherfield before returning to his residence in Springfield.

Batchelder was taken into custody without further incident and has been charged with eluding a police officer, a violation of Vermont State law 23 V.S.A 1133(B)(1).

He is scheduled to appear before the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windsor Unit on Jan. 7 at 8:30 a.m.
