1 min read

BEVERLY — Owen Kasozi, a 30-year-old woman from Danvers, was found deceased in Wenham Lake today, according to Beverly Police Chief John G. LeLacheur and Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker.

Kasozi was last seen entering the J.C. Phillips Nature Preserve near Wenham Lake around 3 p.m. on Dec. 24 and had not returned, prompting a search by various local and state agencies, including the Beverly Police Department, Beverly Fire Department, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit under Tucker’s direction, MSP Airwing, and the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council.

Before her disappearance, Kasozi was believed to have been walking her dog in the nature preserve at 801 Cabot Street on Route 97, a known dog-walking spot.

Her dog was later found unaccompanied last night in Topsfield.

Authorities currently suspect that Kasozi may have accidentally fallen into the frigid lake and could not get out.

At this point, no foul play is suspected.

The official cause of death will be determined following an investigation by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
