Quincy man arrested with firearm, drugs worth over $10,000

QUINCY — Officers of the Quincy Police Department arrested a man on Friday evening following an incident involving a firearm and a significant quantity of illegal drugs.

At about 8:17 p.m. on Dec. 19, police were dispatched to a parking lot on Granite Street near Quincy Center after receiving a report of a disturbance involving a firearm.

The suspect was said to have displayed the weapon from his waistband.

Responding officers, acting on a description of the suspect and his vehicle broadcast over the radio, stopped the suspect’s vehicle on Walter J.

Hannon Parkway.

An investigation revealed the confrontation stemmed from an argument over a drug transaction.

A Quincy Police K9 unit, trained in explosive and firearm detection, signaled officers to a specific area of the suspect’s vehicle, leading to the discovery of a Mauser-HSE .380 caliber firearm.

The suspect, later identified as Leider Sanchez Jimenez, 32, of River Street in Boston, was also found in possession of several blue pills resembling oxycodone, suspected to contain fentanyl, and more than 100 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine, with an estimated street value exceeding $10,000.

In addition, about $5,000 in cash was seized, believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

Jimenez was taken into custody and transported to Quincy Police Department Headquarters.

He was later arraigned in Quincy District Court on multiple firearms and narcotics charges.
