NEWBURY — A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 91 South near mile marker 109.4 resulted in serious injuries and a totaled vehicle late Wednesday night, authorities said.
Pratikumar Patel, 23, of Elmhurst, NY, was driving a 2024 Toyota Highlander when he lost control and veered off the east side of the roadway into the median, striking two trees, according to the Vermont State Police.
The accident occurred at around 9:21 p.m. under cloudy skies with wet road conditions.
Patel, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained suspected serious injuries and was transported to Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, NH.
Two passengers, Devang Prajapati, 23, from Enfield, NH, and Yogeshkumar Patel, 28, from Woodsville, NH, were also in the vehicle without seat belts at the time of the crash.
Troopers have determined that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
Patel has been cited for negligent operation and reckless endangerment, with additional charges pending as the incident remains under investigation.
The Vermont Civil Violation Complaint is currently pending further details.
