HOLYOKE — Holyoke Police Department’s Narcotics team, along with the FBI Western Mass Gang Task Force and Hampden County Safe Unit, carried out a surveillance operation on Dec. 23 at Dwight and Pine streets, targeting suspected illegal drug activity.

During the operation, police arrested two Holyoke residents, 36-year-old Rafael Perez and 41-year-old Jose Gonzalez.

Perez is facing multiple drug-related charges, including possession with intent to distribute Class A and B substances, which are identified as heroin and cocaine, respectively.

He is also charged with distribution of Class A and B substances and conspiracy to violate the drug law.

Gonzalez was arrested on a charge of conspiracy to violate the drug law.

The collaboration between local and federal law enforcement agencies underscores the ongoing efforts to combat narcotics distribution within the community.

Both individuals were taken into custody without incident and are expected to be arraigned in the Hampden County Court.
