WATERBURY — Waterbury Police Department’s Auto Theft Task Force apprehended a 20-year-old Oakville man on Dec. 19 after he was caught with a stolen vehicle.
At around 1:30 p.m., officers located a 2020 Nissan Altima at 1556 Watertown Avenue, which had been reported stolen from Watertown, CT.
When they observed a suspect, identified as Andrew Adames, approaching and unlocking the vehicle, he was immediately taken into custody without incident.
Adames, who is familiar to the Auto Theft unit due to previous incidents, was found in possession of the key fob for the stolen car.
He has been charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle 1st Offense and is being held on a $5,000 bond.
The Waterbury Police Department is actively investigating auto theft crimes and urges the community to take precautions to secure their vehicles.
