TOWNSHEND — A Townshend man has been charged with multiple offenses, including grossly negligent operation resulting in death, after a hit-and-run incident that killed a 24-year-old man in December.
Daniel Carr, 34, was identified through further investigation as the driver of a 2009 GMC Sierra that struck Shane Whittaker on Vermont Route 30 on Dec. 9, at about 6:31 p.m., according to the Vermont State Police.
Carr has been arrested and charged with grossly negligent operation resulting in death, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, two counts of reckless endangerment, giving false information to police, driving with a criminally suspended license, failure to comply with an ignition interlock device restricted driver’s license, and violation of conditions of release.
After processing at the Westminster State Police Barracks, Carr was transported to Southern State Correctional Facility.
He is being held on a $25,000 cash bail and is due to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham Unit, Criminal Division on Dec. 23 at 12:30 p.m.
In addition, 26-year-old Jamee Shields was cited for providing false information to police.
Shields is also scheduled to appear in court on the same date and time as Carr to answer to the charge.
