BOSTON — A significant drug distribution operation in the Dorchester neighborhood was taken down by Boston police following a series of raids on Monday morning, leading to the arrest of a local man on trafficking charges.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., officers from the C-6 (South Boston) Drug Control Unit, working in concert with teams from the A-1, B-2, and C-11 units, apprehended 41-year-old Martin Alcantara on multiple counts relating to drug trafficking.

The arrest marked the end of a prolonged investigation into narcotics distribution throughout the city.

Detectives who had been probing the case were able to secure search warrants for two homes, one vehicle, and the person of Alcantara.

The warrants were served at 9:15 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. at 220 Hamilton Street and 10 Michigan Avenue, as well as during a traffic stop at 314 Bowdoin Street, where Alcantara was detained.

In the course of the traffic stop, police uncovered two bags of fentanyl concealed in Alcantara’s mouth, another bag of the same substance hidden in his underwear, and quantities of crack cocaine stashed inside his wallet.

The searches conducted at the residences resulted in the seizure of large amounts of fentanyl and cocaine, materials associated with drug packaging and distribution, and an undisclosed sum of cash.

Alcantara was taken into police custody and is slated for arraignment at Dorchester District Court.

He will face charges including trafficking in fentanyl in an amount between 100 and 200 grams, trafficking more than 200 grams of cocaine, and possession of Class B substances with the intent to distribute.
