ST. JOHNSBURY — A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of two local residents on drug and multiple violation of release conditions charges, Vermont State Police reported.

Jamie Cates, 29, of Wheelock, and Krystal Taylor, 37, of St. Johnsbury, were taken into custody on Dec. 21 at 6:58 p.m. after a vehicle operated by Cates was pulled over on Memorial Drive for a traffic violation.

During the stop, troopers found that Cates’ driver’s license was criminally suspended, and he was in breach of 10 conditions of release.

Taylor, the passenger, was also discovered to be non-compliant with a court-ordered condition of release.

A search of Cates revealed crack cocaine, and a Vermont State Police K9 unit signaled the presence of additional contraband in the vehicle, which was impounded.

Both individuals were cited and are scheduled to appear in Caledonia County Superior Court on Feb. 24 at 8:30 a.m. to face their charges.
