CALAIS — A dispute over a mailbox escalated to criminal charges on March 11 when Craig Line, 69, allegedly dismantled his neighbor’s mailbox in Calais.
The Berlin State Police responded to the incident after receiving a report at 12:49 p.m. regarding a disagreement between Line and Samuel Potter, 34, also a Calais resident.
The investigation revealed that Line had unlawfully removed Potter’s mailbox, which resulted in damage to the post.
Although the mailbox was positioned on Line’s property, it was situated within the town’s right of way, giving Potter rightful placement.
Line is now facing charges of Unlawful Mischief and will be required to answer to the allegations in court.
