Two-vehicle crash leads to DUI arrest in Berkshire

BERKSHIRE — A two-vehicle collision on Vermont Route 118 near Gummerus Road resulted in a driving under the influence arrest on Thursday, Dec. 19.

Vermont State Police responded to the crash at 2:21 p.m. The incident involved Travis Barbour, 44, of Newark, driving a 2007 Suzuki SX4, and Andrew Hinman, 23, of Middlebury, operating a 2023 FRHT TK.

Troopers reported that Barbour exhibited signs of impairment at the scene.

Following an investigation, he was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Barbour was transported to the St. Albans Barracks for processing, where he refused to submit to evidentiary testing.

He was subsequently released with a citation to appear in Franklin County Superior Court at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 14, 2025.

No injuries were reported in the crash.

Barbour’s vehicle was totaled, while Hinman’s truck sustained front-end damage.

The road conditions were reported as dry at the time of the incident, with clear weather.
