WATERBURY — Police arrested a convicted felon and seized multiple weapons during a traffic stop Tuesday evening, authorities said.
Jorge Bittar-Rivera, 46, of Waterbury, was charged with eight offenses, including criminal possession of a pistol and illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine, after officers pulled over his vehicle at 810 N. Main St. around 5:30 p.m.
The Waterbury Police Department’s VICE and Intelligence Unit was investigating drug activity and quality-of-life concerns in the Jewelry Street area when they observed a red Chrysler with a misused marker plate, police said.
During the stop, officers seized a Taurus .38 Special revolver, ammunition for multiple firearms, a high-capacity magazine and drug paraphernalia, according to police.
Bittar-Rivera, a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition, faces additional charges of insufficient insurance, misuse of a marker plate, weapons in a motor vehicle, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
He is being held on a $1 million bond pending court arraignment Wednesday.
