Missing man search suspended in Winooski River

WATERBURY — Search efforts for a missing man believed to have entered the Winooski River were suspended at nightfall Thursday, with targeted searching expected to resume Friday.

The Vermont State Police identified the missing individual as John Gaye, 45, of Essex Junction, Vermont, and Graham, Kentucky.

Authorities have no evidence suggesting suspicious circumstances surrounding his disappearance but express concern for his well-being.

Gaye is believed to have entered the river around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Search operations began shortly after and continued throughout Thursday before being halted due to darkness.

State police are urging anyone with information that could aid the investigation to contact the Berlin barracks at 802-229-9191.

A photograph of Gaye has been released to assist in the search efforts.

The Vermont State Police said they will provide updates as the investigation progresses.
