ST. ALBANS — A 29-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night following a series of vehicle break-ins, thefts and a police pursuit in St. Albans.
Brett Langdell, of St. Albans, faces multiple charges including aggravated operation without owner’s consent, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and attempting to elude while operating in a grossly negligent manner.
The incidents began around 6:10 p.m. when police responded to reports of vehicle break-ins at the Maple City Diner.
Minutes later, officers were called to Oriental Kitchen for a stolen tip jar.
At 7:13 p.m., police received reports of car windows being smashed at Market 32.
Shortly after, a white Subaru Impreza was reported stolen on Catherine Street.
Around 8:04 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Bronson Road where a man was seen taking items from a parked vehicle.
The suspect fled in a white Subaru when confronted.
Police located the vehicle and attempted to make contact, but the driver fled, nearly striking an officer.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle was found wrecked on Lake Road with no driver present.
At 11:21 p.m., police arrested Langdell after he was found hiding in an apartment building vestibule following another attempted vehicle break-in.
Langdell was lodged at Northwest State Correctional Center without bail.
He is scheduled to appear in court at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
According to police, Langdell has had over 50 law enforcement encounters this year, including an arrest Monday for a failure to appear warrant on a felony burglary charge.
