BOSTON — Boston police are investigating the death of a 30-year-old woman as a suspected homicide after her body was found in an apartment Thursday.

Shantel Gillespie of Boston was discovered in a residence at 390 Harrison Ave. around 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 12, according to police.

While the official cause and manner of death are still pending from the medical examiner, investigators believe Gillespie’s death was not a random act.

“Preliminary information indicates that residents of the building and members of the public are not in danger,” said Police Commissioner Michael Cox in a statement Friday.

The Boston Police Department’s Homicide Unit and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office are leading the investigation.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact detectives at 617-343-4470.

Police said they will release further updates as the investigation progresses.
