SOUTHBURY — First responders were recognized today for their swift action in saving a woman who suffered a cardiac arrest while in a vehicle last month.
On Nov. 24, at approximately 6:49 p.m., Dispatcher Canale of Southbury Emergency Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a medical emergency.
The caller reported that a female passenger was in distress inside a motor vehicle.
In response, the driver headed straight to Southbury Police Headquarters for help.
Upon arrival, Southbury Police Officers Pierce, Volpe, El-Ayoub, DeSanto, and Hannigan immediately initiated life-saving measures on the woman, who by then was in cardiac arrest.
Their efforts were continued with the assistance of Southbury Ambulance, who arrived promptly at the scene.
Together, police and EMTs worked to resuscitate the patient.
The collaborative efforts of the first responders, including Paramedics from Hatzalah EMS, proved successful as the woman was revived and subsequently transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
She has since recovered and been discharged from the hospital.
On Dec. 18, the Southbury Ambulance Association invited the lifesavers to meet the woman they had rescued.
During this heartfelt reunion, the first responders were honored with Life Saving Commendations for their exceptional service and teamwork that led to this positive outcome.
