Search underway for missing man believed to have entered Winooski River

WATERBURY — At about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, the Vermont State Police were called by the Essex Police Department for assistance in a missing persons case.

The missing man’s vehicle was found parked behind a local business at 601 U.S. Route 2.

Near the vehicle, evidence suggested the individual might have gone into the Winooski River.

As of now, the man remains missing, and residents can expect a heightened police presence in the area as the search progresses.

The Vermont State Police Underwater Recovery Team (URT) has been deployed to the river in an effort to locate the man.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the missing person’s identity or the circumstances surrounding the disappearance.

The Vermont State Police have committed to providing updates as the operation continues.

Residents are urged to avoid the search area to ensure the safety of the recovery team and the efficiency of the ongoing operations.
