Man charged with sexual assault of a minor in Salisbury

SALISBURY — A New York man has been charged with the sexual assault of a juvenile following an investigation by the Vermont State Police, authorities said Wednesday.

Detectives with the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations at the New Haven Barracks initiated their inquiry into the incident that occurred on June 29.

It was determined that Jason Purdy, 50, from Granville, NY, engaged in nonconsensual sexual contact with a minor.

Purdy surrendered to authorities at the Rutland State Police Barracks on Dec. 18 and was issued a citation to appear in Addison County Superior Court, Criminal Division, on Jan. 27, 2025, to face the charge of sexual assault.

The Vermont State Police have not released any details about the victim, adhering to their policy of withholding the names of victims of sexual assault or domestic violence.

The case remains under investigation, and no further details have been provided at this time.
