TEWKSBURY — Two Lawrence residents were arrested Tuesday night by Tewksbury Police and face multiple drug distribution and possession charges, authorities said.

Angel Peguero-Mota, 22, and Mari Sousa, 44, were taken into custody following a traffic stop conducted by the Tewksbury Police Narcotics Unit around 9:20 p.m. near 1775 Andover St., as part of an ongoing investigation.

Peguero-Mota has been charged with distribution of a Class A drug, distribution of a Class B drug, possession with intent to distribute a Class A drug, and two counts of possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug.

Sousa faces similar drug-related charges in addition to operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, a subsequent offense.

During the stop of a gray Subaru Crosstrek occupied by Peguero-Mota and Sousa, officers recovered a cell phone, approximately $305 in cash, a small bag containing 8.8 grams of crack cocaine, two bags with a total of 4.6 grams of cocaine, and a bag with 4.4 grams of fentanyl from Peguero-Mota.

Sousa was found with a lighter, $20, and an empty glass cylinder pipe.

Both Peguero-Mota and Sousa are scheduled for arraignment in Lowell District Court on Nov. 18.

The Tewksbury Police Department reminds the public that these charges are merely allegations and that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
