NEWPORT — Vermont State Police arrested a Newport Town man early Tuesday morning on allegations of domestic and sexual assault at a residence on Gage Road.
Authorities were called to the scene at approximately 7:17 a.m. where they conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of Michael Hager, 51.
Police say Hager physically and sexually assaulted the victim, whose identity is withheld in accordance with privacy laws protecting victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Following his arrest, Hager was taken to the Derby Barracks for processing.
He was later held at Northern State Correctional Facility and is scheduled to appear in court to face the charges.
The Vermont State Police continue their investigation into the incident.
