LYNDONVILLE — A transient man was arrested early Wednesday morning for failing to report as a sex offender and on a warrant for violating probation related to lewd conduct with a child and obstruction of justice.

Pedro Rivera Garcia, 36, was taken into custody at approximately 6:05 a.m. at 28 Back Center Road after a Lyndonville Police Department patrol officer was alerted to suspicious activity by a staff member.

The Windsor County Superior Court had issued a hold without bail warrant for Rivera Garcia’s arrest.

A subsequent investigation confirmed that Rivera Garcia, who checked into the inn on Dec. 10 under an emergency housing authorization, had not complied with his duty to report under the Vermont Sex Offender Registry requirements.

After securing a search warrant from the Honorable Court, officers entered and searched Rivera Garcia’s room.

He was arrested and lodged at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility awaiting a court arraignment scheduled for Dec. 19 at 12:30 p.m.

The Lyndonville Police Department acknowledged assistance from the Vermont Sex Offender Registry and the Department of Corrections – Barre Probation & Parole office in the investigation.
