WESTFIELD — A 75-year-old Westfield man has been cited for criminal threatening after he allegedly sent a letter containing threats of death and serious bodily injury to a local couple, police said Friday.
Vermont State Police reported that they received a complaint at about 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 13 about a threatening letter received by Eric Kennison, 46, and Jessica Kennison, 42, also of Westfield.
The investigation quickly focused on Cornell Letourneau, who was identified as the primary suspect.
After reviewing the letter and interviewing Letourneau, investigators developed probable cause to believe he authored and dispatched the menacing correspondence.
Consequently, authorities sought and obtained an Extreme Risk Protection Order against Letourneau, which a Supreme Court Judge granted.
Letourneau has been served with the order and is scheduled to appear in the Orleans County Criminal Court on Dec. 17.
The case remains under investigation, and details about the motivation behind the threats have not been disclosed.
