CONCORD — A high-speed chase culminated in a standoff and the arrest of a driver late Sunday evening, according to New Hampshire State Police.
At 10:22 p.m. on Dec. 15, troopers from Troop D attempted to pull over a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox on Clinton Street for failing to maintain proper lane control.
Ignoring the troopers’ emergency signals, the driver, later identified as Desiree Charter, 38, of Nashua, accelerated and continued to exhibit erratic lane changes as the pursuit extended through Concord and Hopkinton.
On Interstate 89 northbound in Concord, Charter’s vehicle narrowly avoided colliding with another car.
Troopers eventually deflated the tires of the Equinox near Exit 4 using a tire deflation device.
Despite the vehicle’s disabled condition, Charter drove approximately another mile before crashing into a guardrail.
Charter did not comply with troopers’ commands initially, leading to a 20-minute standoff that resulted in the closure of I-89 near mile marker 7.
The standoff ended when Charter exited the SUV and was apprehended.
Charter was transported to Concord Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Prior to this incident, Concord Police had attempted to stop Charter but ceased their pursuit when she failed to pull over.
Charges against Charter include reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, driving after being deemed a habitual offender, possession of a controlled drug – subsequent, aggravated DUI, driving under the influence, and disobeying an officer.
She is due in Concord District Court on Jan. 10.
