WILLISTON — A Massachusetts man was arrested early Monday morning after Vermont State Police clocked him driving at high speeds on Interstate 89 and suspected him of driving under the influence.
Johan Montoya Castano, 38, of Winthrop, was stopped around 12:50 a.m. near mile marker 83.6 in Williston.
Troopers recorded his speed at 109 mph in a 65 mph zone using RADAR.
During the stop, troopers observed signs of impairment in Castano.
Following a roadside investigation, he was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI and transported to the Williston Barracks for processing.
Castano was later detained at the Northwest Correctional Facility for detox.
He received a citation to appear at Chittenden County Superior Court on charges of DUI #1 and Grossly Negligent Operation.
In addition to the criminal charges, Castano was issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for exceeding interstate speed limits, carrying a fine of $655 and a two-point penalty on his driving record.
