AUBURN — A Shrewsbury man has been arrested and charged with witness intimidation after allegedly trying to bribe a victim of a crime at a local spa, according to the Auburn Police Department.
Police were called to the Health Spa at 385 Southbridge Street on Oct. 6 after reports of a disturbance.
A 30-year-old woman, who had phoned 911, told officers she had been inappropriately touched by a masseur at the spa during a massage session.
Following an investigation by Auburn detectives, a 22-year-old man from Shrewsbury was taken into custody in connection with the assault.
Further inquiries revealed that the spa’s owner, 52-year-old Chengan Zhu, also of Shrewsbury, tried to bribe the victim to prevent her from reporting the incident.
Detectives secured an arrest warrant for Zhu, who was subsequently arrested at the Health Spa without incident.
Zhu was arraigned in Worcester District Court on Dec. 11 and was released on personal recognizance.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
