POWNAL — A local man was arrested on suspicion of his third DUI offense after being found by state troopers on US Route 7 on Dec. 14.
Lucas Avis, 42, of Pownal, was taken into custody after troopers spotted a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road with no one inside around 6:17 p.m. Avis was later located down the road from the vehicle.
An investigation by the troopers led to the conclusion that Avis had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
He was transported to the Vermont State Police barracks in Shaftsbury for processing.
Avis was released on a citation and is scheduled to appear in the Bennington County Superior Court on Dec. 30 at 8:15 a.m. to face the charges.
