HOLDEN — A Holden man was arrested late Saturday night after police responded to a distress call from a woman, authorities said.

David MacKenzie, 52, was taken into custody on charges of domestic violence assault, operating after suspension, and violation of conditions of release, according to a statement from the Holden Police Department.

Officers arrived at the scene around 9:15 p.m. after receiving the 911 call.

MacKenzie is reportedly out on post-conviction bail following a conviction in August for four felony counts.

These charges stemmed from an incident where he struck 87-year-old Ira Williams of Brewer with his vehicle while impaired, left the scene, and later concealed his vehicle at his Holden residence.

In October, MacKenzie received a six-year prison sentence with all but 15 months suspended, three years of probation, and a six-year license suspension.

The circumstances under which MacKenzie was not already in prison serving his sentence remain unclear.

This arrest marks the second incident in recent months involving a suspect who was not in prison as expected.

On Nov. 19, Christopher Webber was arrested in possession of a significant amount of fentanyl, despite being under house arrest for a prior conviction of aggravated drug trafficking.
