Townshend man in critical condition after crash

TOWNSHEND — A Townshend man was left in critical condition after a vehicle rollover incident involving an impaired driver on Vermont Route 30 Monday evening.

At 6:31 p.m., Vermont State Police were called to the scene where they discovered Shane M.

Whittaker, 24, of Jamaica, had been struck by a 2009 GMC Sierra.

The driver, Jamee C. Shields, 26, from West Townshend, showed signs of impairment and was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

The investigation revealed that Shields was also driving with her child in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

She now faces additional charges of Grossly Negligent Operation and Reckless Endangerment.

Shields was processed at the Westminster State Police Barracks and released with a criminal citation.

She is due in Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division, on Jan. 21, at 8:30 a.m.

Whittaker was transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where he is reported to be in critical condition.
