TAUNTON — A Grand Jury indicted Shane Barrett, 31, of Taunton on multiple sexual assault charges involving two juveniles and one adult victim, according to the Barnstable Superior Court.
The indictments, announced on December 11, include three counts of Aggravated Rape of a Child, one count of Assault to Rape a Child, two counts of Rape, four counts of Indecent Assault and Battery on a Child Under 14, one count of Indecent Assault and Battery Over 14, one count of Obscene Material to Minors, and one count of Intimidation of a Witness.
These charges stem from a series of assaults that occurred in Yarmouth between October 2018 and 2020.
A report received by the Yarmouth Police Department launched the investigation after a juvenile victim sent a text message to a family friend revealing the abuse.
The investigation uncovered that Barrett allegedly attacked the juveniles at his residences in Hyannisport and Yarmouth over several years, as well as an adult victim.
Barrett was arraigned and held on $30,000 cash bail.
If bail is posted, additional conditions will apply.
The Yarmouth Police Department Special Victims Unit, along with their advocacy team, supported the witnesses and victims throughout the investigation.
Assistant District Attorney Courtney Leigh Scalice, who leads the Child Abuse and Vulnerable Victims Unit at the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office, will prosecute the case.
