Man arrested for shoplifting at Shaw’s Supermarket in Rutland

FAIR HAVEN — A 36-year-old Rutland man was arrested on charges of retail theft after police responded to a shoplifting report at Shaw’s Supermarket on Dec. 13.

Fair Haven Police Department officers were dispatched to the supermarket at 2:15 p.m. following a call about a shoplifting incident in progress.

Store employees reported seeing Robbie J. Wilford Sr. leaving the premises with merchandise he had not purchased.

Upon confronting Wilford as he walked away from the store, police discovered he was in possession of items totaling approximately $148 in value, which he allegedly failed to pay for before exiting the building.

Following the investigation, Wilford was taken into custody and issued a citation to appear in Rutland District Court to face the retail theft charge.

Chief William Humphries led the investigation into the incident.
