EAST HAMPTON — Police arrested a man early Saturday morning after he allegedly attempted to break into multiple homes and a vehicle before being caught riding in the bed of a pickup truck.
Authorities responded to a report at around 5 a.m. on Dec. 13 in the area of Colchester Ave and Tall Woods Dr. where a male suspect was said to be trying to force his way into a residence.
After failing to enter the first home, the suspect, later identified as Stephen Russo, born on July 9, 1998, successfully broke into a second home by shattering a first-floor window.
Confronted by the homeowner, Russo fled the scene on foot and attempted to enter a vehicle stopped nearby.
The driver denied him access, but Russo managed to climb into the bed of the pickup truck as it drove away.
East Hampton Police officers located Russo in the bed of the truck and took him into custody without further incident.
He faces charges for burglary in the first degree, breach of peace in the second degree, and criminal mischief in the first degree.
Russo was held on a $150,000 bond and presented to the Middlesex Superior Court following the incident.
