Waterbury police seize drugs, arrest two in raid

WATERBURY — In a coordinated effort by multiple law enforcement units, Waterbury police arrested two individuals during a raid on Baldwin Street on Dec. 12.

At around 6:25 p.m., the Vice and Intelligence Unit, Gang Task Force, Auto Theft Task Force, and Crime Prevention Unit executed a search and seizure warrant at an apartment located at 550 Baldwin Street, Apt 5.

As a result of the search, officers seized ammunition, drug paraphernalia, $630 in U.S. currency, 57 grams of cocaine, and 88 glassine bags containing fentanyl, all packaged for sale.

Hector Alvarez, 42, and Stephanie Mercedes-Diaz, 33, both residents of Waterbury, were taken into custody following the raid.

Alvarez, who is currently on parole and a convicted felon, was charged with operating a drug factory, interfering with a search warrant, criminal mischief in the second degree, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, criminal possession of ammunition, and possession of half an ounce or more of cocaine in free base form.

He has been remanded to the Connecticut Department of Corrections.

Mercedes-Diaz faces similar charges, including operating a drug factory, interfering with a search warrant, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, and possession of half an ounce or more of cocaine in free base form.

She is being held on a $200,000 bond in the custody of the Connecticut Department of Corrections.

The arrests and seizures are part of ongoing efforts by the Waterbury Police Department to combat drug-related crime in the area.
