SPRINGFIELD — Springfield police officers confiscated three large-capacity firearms, including an AK-style rifle and a machine gun, while detaining two suspects on the 700 block of State Street on Wednesday at about 5:30 p.m.
The incident began around 4:45 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle.
The officers located the car in a parking lot and found Jean Rodriguez-Claudio with the car keys.
Upon arresting Rodriguez-Claudio, they discovered oxycodone on his person.
During a search of the vehicle, officers seized a Zastava rifle with 31 rounds of ammunition.
Two additional firearms were found inside the car; one loaded with 13 rounds and another with 19 rounds.
The firearm with 19 rounds was equipped with a sear-selector switch, converting it to a fully automatic machine gun.

As arrangements were being made to tow the car, a 16-year-old male approached the officers claiming ownership of the firearms.
The minor was subsequently arrested.
