1 min read

HARRISVILLE — Harrisville residents have been targeted by scammers impersonating Eversource and Verizon representatives this week, prompting the Harrisville Police Department to issue a community warning on Thursday.

According to the police, one scam involves a caller claiming to be from Eversource, the local energy provider, threatening to disconnect electricity service unless an immediate payment is made.

In a separate scam, residents reported receiving automated calls supposedly from Verizon, asking them to confirm a recent iPhone purchase by pressing a specific number to either confirm the purchase or speak with a representative.

Authorities urged residents not to provide any personal information or payments to unsolicited callers.

They advised hanging up immediately and contacting the companies directly using verified phone numbers to confirm any suspicious activity or claims.

The police department emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant and reporting any such fraudulent calls to the authorities.
