BRANFORD — Amid a heated altercation in a parking lot late Saturday night, Branford police arrested a local man for discharging a firearm into the air among other charges.
Officers responded to reports of a loud disturbance involving a large group yelling and making threats at 11 Mill Plain Road around 11 p.m. While en route, they were informed that shots had been fired.
Upon arrival, authorities found no injuries but confirmed that one shot was fired skyward.
They apprehended 53-year-old Gerard McAfee of Branford, who was identified as the individual who discharged the weapon.
McAfee faces multiple charges including Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Use of a Weapon, Risk of Injury to a Child, Reckless Endangerment 1st, and Breach of Peace in the Second Degree.
After posting a $300,000 bond, McAfee was released and is scheduled for arraignment at the GA 23 – New Haven Court on Dec. 17 at 9 a.m.
The Branford Police Department has stated that the investigation is ongoing.
