SOUTH WINDSOR — Multiple arrests have been made by the South Windsor Police Department (SWPD) following various criminal investigations, resulting in charges ranging from burglary to driving under the influence.
On Dec. 5, at 10:30 a.m., SWPD arrested Yavier A. Ruiz-Velez, a 24-year-old East Hartford resident, on three active arrest warrants.
Ruiz-Velez is accused of committing several car burglaries on Amato Drive in April, during which he allegedly stole a firearm and used stolen credit cards at Wal-Mart.
Ruiz-Velez, who was already in state custody on unrelated charges, was processed and presented at Manchester Superior Court the same day.
In another case, on Dec. 6 at 3:01 a.m., SWPD took Corey M. Schmitt, 35, into custody.
The Vernon man was charged with stealing approximately $22,000 from a family member.
Schmitt was handed over by the Norwich Police Department, processed, and released on a $15,000 surety bond.
He is due to appear in Manchester Superior Court on Jan. 8, at 9 a.m.
Later that day, at 10:43 a.m., Tara L. Desjardins, 42, of Meriden, was arrested.
Desjardins faces charges including using a motor vehicle without permission, criminal impersonation, and interfering with an officer, following a traffic stop where she also provided another person’s identification.
Discovered to have an extraditable warrant from Texas, Desjardins was held on a $55,000 surety bond and is expected in Manchester Superior Court this morning at 9 a.m.
On Dec. 7, at 12:17 p.m., Brian G. Landry, a 52-year-old Windham resident, was arrested after he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Nutmeg Road South, causing an accident with minor injuries to a passenger.
Suspected to be under the influence of alcohol and unable to perform sobriety tests, Landry was taken into custody.
He was processed and released on a $2,500 non-surety bond, with a court appearance scheduled for Dec. 23 at 9 a.m.
The SWPD continues its efforts to address crime in the community and encourages residents to report suspicious activities.
