CHICOPEE — A 28-year-old Springfield man died following a head-on collision on Shawinigan Drive Friday afternoon, according to the Chicopee Police Department.
Westcomm Regional Dispatch received a 911 call at about 4 p.m. reporting the accident.
Upon arrival, officers found the Springfield man with severe injuries.
He was extricated from his vehicle and emergency personnel initiated life-saving measures on the scene.
He was then transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash was also taken to the hospital and is currently in the intensive care unit in stable condition.
The Chicopee Police Department expressed their condolences to the friends and family of the deceased and stated that the crash is still under investigation by their Crash Reconstruction Team and the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office.
