BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department apprehended a man late Friday night after a reported road rage incident that led to gunfire in the South End neighborhood.
At about 10:37 p.m., on Dec. 6, officers assigned to District D-4 responded to 145 East Berkeley Street following reports of shots fired.
Police operations indicated that the incident involved an altercation between drivers and a shot discharged.
Upon reaching the scene at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and East Berkeley Street, officers found two vehicles stopped and immediately detained Jair Furtado, 40, of Boston, the operator of one of the vehicles.
A visible firearm inside Furtado’s vehicle prompted the officers to secure the area and call for detectives.
The weapon, identified as a Springfield Hellcat, was loaded with one round in the chamber and eight in the magazine.
A subsequent search of the vehicle also uncovered a box of ammunition and a holster.
Investigations revealed the confrontation began at Albany Street and East Berkeley Street, where an exchange following a road rage incident escalated, resulting in Furtado shooting at the other involved vehicle.
Furtado is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
He is expected to face these charges at his arraignment in Boston Municipal Court.
