Salem police investigate after teen pedestrian struck by pickup on Route 28

SALEM — A 19-year-old Northwood man was seriously injured Thursday evening when he was hit by a pickup truck on South Broadway, according to the Salem Police Department.

At around 5:43 p.m., the Salem police responded to 911 calls reporting a pedestrian accident near 368 South Broadway (Route 28).

Officers found Keeghan Kopp with serious injuries after being struck by a Ford F250.

Salem Fire Department personnel transported Kopp to Lawrence General Hospital, and he was later flown to a hospital in Boston for further treatment.

The driver of the pickup, identified as 48-year-old Robert Lownie from Pelham, stopped at the scene and cooperated with police.

The Salem Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction team is investigating the circumstances leading up to the collision.

Authorities are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to contact Officer Christopher Markey, the lead investigator at the Salem Police Department.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
