WESTBROOK — Authorities have arrested a Westbrook man in connection with the death of his roommate, following an investigation into a violent altercation that resulted in a homicide.

Maine State Police, along with the Westbrook Police Department, responded to a medical emergency call at 34 Lamb Street on Nov. 21 at approximately 11:35 p.m. Upon arrival, first responders found 59-year-old Robert Seger unresponsive.

Despite attempts to render aid, Seger was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.

An autopsy by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta concluded that Seger’s death was a homicide caused by multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

James Fowler, 47, the victim’s roommate and the person who called 911, was arrested on Dec. 3 at 7:35 p.m. at the same address.

Fowler, who had indicated to police that he and Seger had an argument before he left the house and later returned, is now facing charges of Depraved Indifference Murder.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South, along with the State Police Evidence Response Team and Westbrook Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Seger’s death.

Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, Fowler was taken into custody without incident and has been transported to Cumberland County Jail.
