PROVIDENCE — A high-speed chase spanning two states ended with two arrests last evening after East Providence Police joined the pursuit initially started by the Massachusetts State Police.

Massachusetts authorities terminated the chase at the Rhode Island state line, but East Providence officers were quick to respond.

An officer noticed the suspect vehicle exiting I-195 West onto Broadway and performed a felony stop.

While conducting the stop, one of the car’s occupants attempted to escape on foot.

The driver, however, was immediately detained and charged with felony drug possession after officers found 69 Xanax pills.

The passenger who fled was soon caught after a short chase.

East Providence Police charged the individual with Obstruction and Resisting Arrest.

Massachusetts State Police are expected to file additional criminal charges against both individuals.

The successful apprehension of the suspects highlighted the coordination and collaboration between the two state police departments.
