SWANTON — A routine traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase ending in a crash and foot pursuit, resulting in the arrest of a Springfield man on drug charges, Swanton Village Police reported.
On Nov. 22, at 7:15 p.m., a Swanton Village Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Robinhood Drive for a traffic violation.
The driver, later identified as Davidson Altima, 28, of Springfield, Massachusetts, sped off northbound, leading police on a chase through local streets.
After speeding through the intersection of Robinhood Drive, First Street, and Missisquoi Street, Altima’s vehicle crashed at the end of Missisquoi Street.
He then fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after by the pursuing officer.
Upon arrest, Altima was found in possession of over 10 grams of heroin.
He was processed at the Swanton Village Police Department and subsequently detained at the Northwest Correctional Facility with bail set at $10,000.
