TORRINGTON — After responding to reports of shots fired near Middle School Drive and East Pearl Road on Dec. 3 at about 6:54 p.m., Torrington police have determined the noise heard by a motorist was not gunfire.

The initial report came from a driver who believed his vehicle was struck by gunfire as another car passed by.

However, upon investigation, officers concluded that the damage was inconsistent with firearm discharge.

Instead, the damage appeared to be caused by a small object that was likely thrown at the vehicle.

Officers canvassed the area thoroughly and found no evidence of a shooting.

The Torrington Police Department has assured the community that there is no danger to the public relating to this incident.

Officer Yabrosky, who provided the update, thanked the public for their vigilance and cooperation during the investigation.
