Topsham man cited after fatal crash with horses on VT Rt 25

TOPSHAM — Vermont State Police responded to a fatal crash involving a vehicle and three horses late Friday night on VT Rt 25.

Hayden Hatch, 23, of Orange, was driving a 2016 Chevy Silverado when he struck two horses that were in the roadway, authorities said.

The crash occurred at around 10:29 p.m. under clear skies with wet road conditions.

The impact of the collision resulted in the death of two horses at the scene and a third succumbed to injuries shortly after.

Hatch, who was wearing a seatbelt, did not sustain any injuries and the vehicle was declared totaled.

Following the crash, Hatch fled the scene on foot.

State police located him the next day at a residence on George St. in Orange.

Hatch has since been issued a citation to appear in Orange County Superior Court – Criminal Division in connection with the incident.
