BANGOR — The Maine Warden Service is conducting an extensive search for two elderly men who went missing after leaving the Maine Veteran’s Home in Bangor yesterday morning.
Sidney Hoyt, 77, and Gary Foster, 75, both of Bangor, were last seen when Hoyt picked up Foster at the home on Hogan Road shortly after 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
They had planned a short drive along Stud Mill Road and were expected to return by 5 p.m. but failed to do so.
The search began last night at around 11:30 p.m. when the warden service was notified of their absence.
Efforts to locate the men have included the deployment of two warden service airplanes and ground vehicle patrols.
The Maine Forest Service has joined the search with a helicopter, alongside additional vehicles.
Local law enforcement agencies, including Bangor Police and the Maine State Police, are also contributing to the search efforts.
The Stud Mill Road area, where the men planned to travel, spans from Milford to Princeton, encompassing a vast, wooded landscape that poses a challenge for search and rescue operations.
Hoyt, who has multiple health issues, is described as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 290 pounds, with reddish/gray hair and blue eyes.
He was last seen wearing a black shirt, blue jacket, and blue jeans.
Foster, who has cognitive issues, is a white male, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 174 pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes.
The two men were traveling in a white 2008 Honda Ridgeline with Maine registration 7319GX.
It has been noted that neither Hoyt nor Foster had a cell phone with them.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of Hoyt and Foster to contact the Maine State Police dispatch at 207-973-3700 or the Bangor Police Department at 207.947.7384.
