WORCESTER — A routine traffic situation escalated late Saturday night when a Worcester police officer’s vehicle was nearly struck, leading to the arrest of a man on multiple gun-related charges.
The incident occurred on Nov. 30, at around 10:15 p.m. on Goldsberry Street.
A vehicle operated by 36-year-old Kevin Blair came close to hitting the rear of a police cruiser before swerving and pulling into a nearby gas station.
Upon approaching the vehicle and conversing with Blair, the officer noted an open container of alcohol and requested Blair’s license and registration.
Blair non-compliantly reached around the interior of the vehicle, prompting the officer to order him out of the car.
With additional officers arriving at the scene, a search of Blair’s vehicle ensued.
Under the driver’s seat, a handgun with a defaced serial number was discovered.
Blair was found to be without a license to carry a firearm in the state of Massachusetts.
The Worcester Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit took custody of the weapon as part of the investigation.
Blair has been charged with possession of a large capacity firearm without a license, possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
He is currently in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
