GLENBURN — A man wanted for a domestic violence incident involving gunfire in Corinth was arrested Monday after a standoff with law enforcement in Glenburn.

Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office deputies, with assistance from the Maine Forest Service and local fire departments, apprehended 37-year-old Christopher Cunningham following an extensive search and tactical operation.

The incident began on Friday, Nov. 29, when deputies responded to a report of shots fired at a Corinth residence.

Cunningham allegedly fired several shots at the home before fleeing.

No injuries were reported.

Investigation led deputies to a residence on Route 222 (Union Street) in Glenburn on Dec. 2.

Aided by a Maine Forest Service helicopter, deputies spotted and detained an individual attempting to flee the location, who confirmed Cunningham was inside the house.

Another person emerged from the residence and was also detained, corroborating the suspect’s presence.

Authorities established a perimeter for public safety, secured a search warrant, and the Maine State Police Tactical Team was called to assist.

After hours of negotiation, Cunningham surrendered to authorities.

He is now facing charges of domestic violence reckless conduct, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and reckless conduct, and is being held at the county jail.

The Sheriff’s Office was supported by multiple agencies, including the Maine State Police Tactical Team, Maine Forest Service, and the Hermon, Glenburn, and Levant Fire Departments in the operation.
