BOSTON — An extensive investigation by Boston police following a ShotSpotter alert has led to the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of a firearm in Dorchester.
On Dec. 2, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan), the Youth Violence Strike Force, and District B-3 Detectives arrested Lamar Booth, 59, of Hyde Park, and Jamila Smith, 44, of Dorchester.
The arrests are in connection with a firearm-related incident that was initially detected by ShotSpotter technology on Nov. 27 at 97 Woodrow Avenue in Dorchester.
Responding to the alert, officers found ballistic evidence at the scene.
Later that evening, a victim with non-life-threatening injuries reported being shot at the same location.
Detectives launched a thorough investigation, which led to the identification of Booth and Smith as suspects.
Arrest warrants were issued for both individuals, as well as a search warrant for Smith’s residence.
The arrests were made without incident.
A search of Smith’s home yielded a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun equipped with a high-capacity magazine.
Booth is facing charges including Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Discharging a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Dwelling.
Smith has been charged with Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Accessory After the Fact, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
Both Booth and Smith are scheduled for arraignment in Dorchester District Court.
