FREEPORT — Maine State Police are investigating a two-vehicle collision that occurred on Interstate 295 southbound near mile marker 22 on Dec. 2 at approximately 7:25 a.m.
According to the MSP, Troopers from Troop I responded to the accident involving a 2018 Volkswagen and a 2024 Toyota.
The crash occurred when the Toyota, attempting to shift from the right lane to the left, struck the Volkswagen.
The impact caused the Volkswagen to hit the guardrail, while the Toyota overturned and came to rest on its roof in the middle of the interstate.
The Toyota’s driver was transported by Freeport Rescue to Maine Medical Center in Portland with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Volkswagen’s driver reported minor pain but declined transportation to the hospital.
Traffic was briefly halted but resumed using a third lane that served as a merging lane from the exit 22 on-ramp.
State Troopers received assistance at the scene from the Freeport Police Department, Freeport Fire & Rescue, the Maine Department of Transportation, and Atlantic Coast Towing.
